The Hair Salon

The Hair Salon

Today I had to wake up early to wash my hair and get my hair done. If you’re a black girl you’ll probably know the struggle when you visit a black hair salon. If not, then you’re lucky.

Going to get your hair done can be pain, because first you have to decide what style you want to get. There are a number  of different hair styles to choose from like cornrows, extension, weave etc. If you’re an indecisive person like me, you’ll probably struggle picking a hairstyle you want to get.

2nd, you have to withstand the pain of getting your hair done which can vary depending on what style you’re getting, but oh lord if you’re getting small braids/cornrows then that will HURT! It feels like their pulling your hair follicles from your scalp!

3rd, doing your hair can take so long. Depending on what hair style your getting it can last for 1-7 hours. In my experience, sitting down for up to 6 hours, with a few small breaks, is tiring.

My experience in the hair salon today was quite worth while because the woman that was doing my hair was friendly and we have discussions about Nigerian food, parties, school etc. But also my hair looked great when it was done!

Comment on your experience in a hair salon and comment on what you’re days been like☺️

Check out this awesome poem about Charmed!

Another demon, another day Will evil ever stay away? Look, another demon’s trying to steal me, Whee! There I go, flying away. Surely by now these demons realize That even if they try a thousand times I’ll always protect myself from evil And yet they always seem so surprised. Oh, it seems the sisters need […]

This weeks songs are:

1) Prince – Purple Rain:

Prince Rogers Nelson a.k.a. Prince was a legendary American musician who sadly passed away on Thursday, 21st April. ‘Purple Rain’ is one of my favourite songs from Prince, which was released in 1984 and it’s considered as one of Prince’s signature songs worldwide. This song incorporates a mixture of genres including pop, rock and gospel music. According to NME Prince said “When there’s blood in the sky – red and blue = purple.. purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/God guide you through the purple rain”. R.I.P Prince, you were a musical genius and icon.

2) Coldplay – Charlie Brown

‘Charlie Brown’ is an alternative rock/pop rock song by the British alternative rock band Coldplay, released in 2011. This is the third single from their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto. This song is a story about a boy, that no matter how hard he tries, everything seems to go wrong. (Like the cartoon Charlie Brown). I love this song because it makes me feel free and let’s me escape from reality!

Back to school blues

Back to school blues

This week, I began the last term of school on Tuesday with a ton of work to do and study leave is only a couple of weeks away. I started the day on a high note, due to the fact that I did a lot of revision over the Easter break and I was pretty prepared for the 3 mock exams I had this week, so all was good.

I had media studies period 1 and 2, which I happy with because I finished by print production and evaluation over Easter, so all I had to do was make some improvements in my work. We recieved feedback on our moving image production and print production, so I went on to make various improvements so I can get a better grade. By the end of the lesson, I’d finished nearly all of all things that I needed to improve on and as I clicked save… the computer crashed. That’s right, all the improvements I’d made was all gone! And to make it worse, on Wednesday I tried to open the file, but guess what… The file wouldn’t open, because the file is corrupted! So now I have to recreate my double spread article for media😡 why does this have to happen to me?

I had one of my biology mock exams on Wednesday that went horribly because half the things I thought was going to come up in the mock didn’t.There was way to much maths and data analysis than actually biology in my opinion. After school, I had a 2 hour geography which didn’t go as bad as I predicted which kind of ended my day in a high note.

Today, I stayed after school for about 2 hours to redo my media article which I’ve luckily completed. Woohoooo! That means my media coursework can be handed in on time!

I hope you guys have had a wonderful week and good luck if you have any exams. Comment on what you’ve been up to this week!

Revision is hot!

Revision is hot!

We all know the moment, when you sit down at your desk, open your copious amount of school notes which you have to revise for an upcoming exam and you feel like crying. Doubt creeps into your mind and phrases such as “I can’t make it” become the norm. And that is when we come […]

‘Natural Mystic’ is the first song in Bob Marley & the Wailers’s ninth album, Exodus (1977). The album Exodus’ incorporates Jamaican reggae with other genres including blues, soul, funk and British funk. This is one of my favourite songs from this album besides Jammin’. This song is great when you just want to relax and chill out, but also to think about the deeper meaning of life and the world we live in. The link to this song is below:

2) The Smiths – Bigmouth Strikes Again

The Smiths are my favourite alternative rock band and this is one of my favourite songs from their third album The Queen Is Dead (1986). ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’ was the leading single in this album and reached no.26 in the UK singles chart in 1986. Morrissey, the lead singer of the band, compares himself to Joan of Arc when he says As the flames rose to her Roman nose’. In the background, there is a high-pitched voice which is Morrissey’s voice in a higher pitch. In this song, he regrets what he’d said by saying ‘I was only joking’. The Psycho Driver

The Psycho Driver

Here’s a story about how my friends and I had an encounter with a psycho driver!

My friends and I were walking to school together, like we usually do,in our walking pairs. There’s usually six of us walking but today 2 of my friends were ill so there were only 4 of us and we were walking in two’s. Me and one of my friends were in front while the other two were trailing behind us. We got to a road crossing which is quite close to the junction of the road, then we looked carefully to make sure no cars were coming.

Thinking that no cars were about to come, we start to make our way across the road when suddenly out of NOWHERE a silver sports car drives round the bend of the road and the driver quickly slams on the breaks! I hesitated to carry on crossing due to fact that we are at the middle of the road at this point and the drivers entrance really scared all of us. Did she not see we had already start crossing? Did this woman actually want to kill us? The driver, who we now know is female, gives us the meanest death stare in history especially towards the friend that was walking beside me. I still don’t understand why she looked pissed at us, why was she driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone? Was it our fault we had already started crossing the road? I raised my hand to signal ‘sorry’ to the driver but I honestly didn’t believe it was our fault.

We carried on walking, while discussing what just happened, and just before we got to the next road we had to cross a car blocked the path. Wait a minute. I recognise the woman in the car. At first I thought, for some reason, it was one of my friends aunts but as I look again…guess who it was. Yep, the psycho driver. At this point all of my friends are freaking out, Did this woman drive round again to confront us? Doesn’t this woman have some place to go,because that would explain why she was speeding down the road!

She rolled down her car window and shouted “Don’t you guys have something to f****** say to me!” I was stunned! This woman that nearly ran us over, and wants us to apologise! My friend that was walking beside me, boldly said “We have nothing to say, we were already in the middle of the f****** road, you could have ran us over!” Now, I was too scared to say anything and so were my two friends walking behind us, so we just let them carry on with their argument. At some point the psycho driver called my friend a ‘fat cow’ and I’m like wtf? this woman is at least 40 years old, doesn’t she have better things to do with her time than harass school girls?

Their argument consisted of mainly swearing at each other and when she began to drive off to whatever she was in a hurry to do and we’re now crossing the road, you wouldn’t imagine what happened next… My friend stuck her middle finger out towards her car and she noticed it in her side view mirror and we can see her break lights come on!

Oh No, oh crap….

She started reversing!! I told you, this woman is trying to kill us and so we started SPRINTING for our lives to school, because we are only about 3 minutes away. The two friends I had mentioned that were trailing behind us, had overtaken us running in a hurry to escape being rammed by her car. We are literally running so fast that  we had overtaken many students that were in front of us. I’m not going to lie, we were laughing at the same time because we couldn’t imagine anything like this ever happening to us! When we reached our school, we were so scared we were going to see the same psycho after school that we told our teacher and wrote a statement explaining what happened and there was going to be a teacher outside the gates of our school on the look out! We told a couple of people what happened, they were in shock just like we were and we also found a witness to what happened. Since that day we haven’t seen our heard from the psycho driver, phew!

I hope you enjoyed this story and comment if you’ve had any experience with a psycho driver!
