The Reunion

The Reunion

Even though I am nearly 300km away from my mum and my brother, I am enjoying my stay at my uncles. One of the best things about living with my uncle is that I get to go to my old church, where one of my longest known friends go. Their names are Moyo and Deborah and I have some of the best memories with them from my childhood. When I used to live with my uncle when I was younger, I used to go to their parents Church until I moved houses with my mum and brother and we started attending a different Church. I hadn’t seen them until a year later when my uncle had a barbecue for his birthday and they were invited. It was great seeing them again and seeing how much we’ve changed and grown. After the barbecue, we hadn’t met up mostly because we were concentrating on school but we still kept in contact, mostly through text.

When I found out that we were going to be visiting my old church, I was full of excitement because knew this was one of the rare moments where I could see Moyo and Deborah again. It was so nice seeing all the church attenders who were still going to this church since I left and some of my uncles friends that I hadn’t seen since I was very young. I knew it was very unlikely that I would see Deborah because she now goes to university, which is great news but I wish I could have seen her in church. When I walked into the Church Moyo was in the choir, singing along with the other 4 members of the choir as they sang praise and worship. We locked eyes a couple of times and I was surprised about how tall he’d grown. After praise and worshipped he packed up all his belongings and ran to sit next me, at the back of the church. Our conversation was magical, we talked about all the things we’ve been up to since we last met and Deborah is now going to a church in London, near her university. I even told him about my blog and I even suggested that he should start one as well but he didn’t want to. He’s one of those friends where you can be completely yourself around them and you know they won’t judge you no matter what. We have so much in common, for example we both love anime, which non of my friends at school do. We had a great conversation about anime and he was even surprised by the fact that I started watching anime. He suggested that I start watching One Piece and I might start watching it over the holidays after I have finished watching Sailor Moon. We even went Pokemon hunting after church which was a blast, even though it was 30 degrees outside! I’ve finally finished watching Hunter x Hunter and it was amazing! If you haven’t watched it or you’re not sure what anime to watch, definitely watch Hunter x Hunter! I am seeing him again this Sunday in church before I leave for Manchester Sunday afternoon. I can’t wait to see my mum and brother.

Another reunion that is happening is between me and two of my closest friends in secondary school, Sarah and Zara. Sarah created a group chat on Tuesday and we all agreed to go to Nandos on Saturday so we can talk about what we’ve been up to since the end of year 11. It’s going to be so nice catching up with them. I hope you guys have been having a wonderful week and please comment below what you’ve been up to!

Music Monday: 25/07/16

This weeks songs are:

1) Diddy – Dirty Money – I Hate That You Love Me

I Hate That You Love Me is an R&B song released in 2010 by the Hip Hop/R&B group, Diddy – Dirty Money. The groups consists of Sean Combs (P. Diddy), singer-songwriter, Kalenna Harper and dancer and singer, Dawn Richard. I really love the chords of the piano in this song and I think this is why I fell in love with this song. The piano in the background repeats the same chords all the way through the song however this track is a song that gets everyone dancing and moving to the rhythm. This is the third song in their album Last Train to Paris (2010), so please check out this awesome song below:

Diddy – Dirty Money – I Hate That You Love Me

2) Laura Welsh – Undiscovered

Laura Welsh is a indie pop singer from England who previously went by the name Hey Laura after a split from her band, Laura & The Tears. She has opened for Ellie Goulding and she was the vocalist in the song Here for You by Gorgon City. This song is the second track on the soundtrack for Fifty Shades Of Grey as well as peaking at no.38 on the Rock Songs chart. I enjoy listening to Laura’s vocals on this song as she sings about how she really wants to get to know a guy that is ‘undiscovered’ and is hard to decipher. Check out this great song below:

Laura Welsh – Undiscovered

3) James Morrison – Up ft. Jessie J

Up is a contemporary, pop song released in late 2011 by the British singer James Morrison featuring Jessie  J. This song is the second single in his third studio album, The Awakening (2011). James expressed his worry on if Jessie J was the right ‘character’ for the lyrics because he initially wanted to sing this duet with Adele however, he was ultimately blown away by Jessie’s amazing vocals. I think this song brings out the more intimate and vulnerable side of Jessie J’s voice. Check out this song below:

School’s Out!

School’s Out!

I can’t believe that today is the last day of year 12. It feels like it was yesterday when I first walked into the sixth form and met all the new sixth form students if my form. I’m just glad that I have survived this year. Surprisingly, Year 12 wasn’t as stressful as I thought I’d be and honestly… I don’t know why. Most of my friends hated sixth form and wished they went to college instead due to the workload and the amount of stress teachers put on us but I feel like I’ve really kept my head above the water this year. This could be because whenever I get an essay or a big project to complete, I always remind myself that this is only a small challenge that I have to go through that will lead to a great overall result in my A-levels. I have enjoyed year 12 even though there have been some ups and downs throughout the year and I’ll even say that year 12 is probably one of my favourite academic years including year 9 and 10. This is mostly beacuse we got to skip the lunch queue but also beacuse we have more freedom and we can focus on the subjects we enjoy. Next year, we will be only doing 3 subjects, that’s 6 double lessons and lots more free periods! I’ve heard that year 13 is better than year 12 beacuse you get used to the structure and work in sixth form.

I’m also glad that I don’t have any hard summer homework, unlike last summer, which makes the holiday even better however, I think I have to write my personal statement for my UCAS application over summer. If you guys have any tips, please comment them! I was supposed to start writing my personal statement this week but it didn’t happen because I couldn’t access my UCAS account (which is now locked beacuse I tried to log in too many times, LOL) and I couldn’t really be bothered because it’s the last week of school. I had two big projects that I had to give in yesterday for biology and psychology which was a little bit stressful beacuse 1. My statistical analysis was all wrong so that effected the conclusion of my experiment in biology and 2. I didn’t have a debrief form or signatures of my participants in psychology however, I completed both subjects and handed them in one time.

These next 6 weeks of summer will mostly be spent chilling out, relaxing and catching up on all my favourite shows. I’ll be spending a lot of the summer with my family out in Manchester which will be a nice change in scenery. I know some of you guys have already started your summer holiday so please comment on what you’ve been up to/going to be doing this summer!

This weeks songs are:

1) J-Unity – Drive Away

J-Unity are talented rappers, singers, songwriters and instrumentalists from North West London. You guys might recognise them from X-Factor 2013, where they were semi-finalists and they were also awarded with the Unsigned Stars Award in 2012. The pair take pride in their Caribbean roots which is noticeable in their music.Their single Drive Away comes with a beautiful music video that is set in what I believe is their home town, where they’re driving around, passing endless houses and admiring the great scenery. This tune is so chill and relaxing and the group found a great balance between rapping and singing which beautifully conveys the message of the song to the audience. The beat and vocals in this song gives me a sense of nostalgia and makes me dream of a better place away from all the problems I have now. Please check out this great song below:

J-Unity – Drive Away

2) Luna Shadows – Waves

I first heard this song when I watched the buzzfeed video: Lingerie Throughout History which displays the change in women’s lingerie since the 1700s to now. Luna Shadows is an upcoming singer from Los Angeles, USA. I absolutely love her vocals in this song, its dreamy and calming. This song to me is a mixture between relaxing and making you want to get up and dance. I can image myself laying on a beach, with my earphones on, listening to this song and watching the waves in the ocean. Waves appears on her EP Summertime. Check out this awesome song below:

Luna Shadows – Waves

3) Coco ft. AJ Tracey & Nadia Rose – Big N Serious (Remix)

Sheffield MC, Coco, returns to SBTV with the new remix of his song ‘Big N Serious’ featuring the West London rapper, AJ Tracey and Nadia Rose. Coco is named one of the “15 grime MC’s Outside Of London That You Need To Know Today” and rightly so because he is putting Sheffield on the map as well as putting the limelight on MC’s outside of London e.g. Bugzy Malone (Manchester). Coco teamed up with Nadia and AJ to produce this live track and music video which showcases their own flow and styles of rapping. AJ Tracey’s part goes in hard, Nadia adds her unique flow and Coco gives nothing but his best. The South East London rapper, Nadia Rose, shows of the versatility of her flow but goes in just as hard as Coco and AJ, so check out this sick tune:

Last Sports Day

Last Sports Day

I arrived  back to my current town on Tuesday night but funnily enough I nearly missed my second coach beacuse I was asking the cashier of a store how much millions (the sweets) cost. In the corner of my eye, I noticed my coach at the station, I grabbed my luggage and ran for the coach before I thought it would leave without me. It was alright beacuse the coach driver didn’t even leave his seat to board people into the coach yet and he was so nice as well. The whole journey from Manchester to where i live took about 6 hours and I boarded a coach, took a train and a taxi, all by myself. I’m now current  living with my Uncle, while my mum and brother are in Manchester. The real reason I came back from Manchester is to finish school beacuse we’ve started our application to university and I generally didn’t want to miss 2 weeks of school. The thing is, I hadn’t missed a day of school last year or this year until this Monday and Tuesday beacuse I was in Manchester. I’m quite passionate about my attendance in school, I don’t know why…but I just am. I have had such a good attendance throughout the whole of  secondary school that one of my closest friends was very surprised that I didn’t come into school Monday and Tuesday. I didn’t have that much work to catch up on which is good, even though we’ve sort of started the A2 course.

Today was my last day attending sports day in my school which is quite sad beacuse I participated in an event (track or field) throughout secondary school. This year, I didn’t participate in any events but my form still won sports day overall for year 12s which is brilliant. It was nice to see the whole school outside, representing and cheering on their forms participants. Overall, my house came 3rd, which is really good especially because I moved to a new form in the begging of year 12. This time next year, I will be on summer holiday beacuse we finish school in May in year 13 which means an extended summer,I can’t wait!

I hope you guys have been having a good week so please comment what you’ve been up to this week 🙂

This weeks songs are:

1) Nick Brewer – Talk To Me ft. Bibi Bourelly

Nick Brewer is an English Hip Hop and Grime artist who released Talk To Me in July 2015 featuring the German singer, Bibi Bourelly. Bibi Bourelly also wrote the lyrics to Rihanna’s 2015 hit song BBHMM. The music video for this song has just over 4 million views. This track is heavily sampled from the original song Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless) by Crystal Water. Talk To Me will become the leading single on his upcoming debut album, Recreation. I really like the uptempo beat of this song, so please check it out below:

Nick Brewer – Talk To Me ft. Bibi Bourelly

2) Bastille – Of The Night

Of The Night was released in October 2013 by the British indie rock band, Bastille. This song became the lead single on their album, All This Bad Blood (2013) and it peaked at no.2 on the UK’s singles chart. I love the fact that this song is a mashup of two Eurodance songs, Rhythm Is A Dancer by the German group Snap! and The Rhytm Of The Night by Corona. This song has been given 5/5 stars by music critics and it was called “one of the most inspired covers ever made”. Dan smith wrote this song about a man who is a crime investigator who sees all kinds of murders, but he falls so deep in depression that he commits suicide. Check out this great song below:

3) Kid Sister – Right Hand Hi

Kid Sister is an American Rapper who is most known for her song Pro Nails. Right Hand Hi is an electro house track which is the fourth single on her album, Ultraviolet (2009). This song peaked a no.31 on the UK’s R&B singles chart but it didn’t even reach the top 40 on the UK’s singles chart. This song did well in Belgium reaching no.9. This track is the classic party song that gets all hands up in the air, so check out this cool song below:

Moving Out (My 17th Birthday)

Moving Out (My 17th Birthday)

Woo!🎉 Today I turn 17 years old although, I had to wake up at 2 am so my family could catch a coach to the Victoria coach station to go to Manchester. The whole journey took about 7 hours. We’ll be currently living at my Uncles until we find another place to live in and I could potentially be missing quite a few days of school because Manchester is about 4hr away from where my school is. Me missing school isn’t necessarily too bad because we only have 2 weeks of school left however, we’re starting a big project in Biology and starting to write our UCAS application for university which I don’t want to miss out on.

To be honest, I really can’t believe I’m 17. I can get my drivers license like one of my closest friends has and then I can get a car. My Uncle in America last year said that he’d pay for my first car when I turn 18, so I really hope he keeps his promise! Ultimately he became one of my favourite Uncles because he bought me my iPhone 6 and my brother’s iPad mini.

Another thing that is speacial about today is that it is Swoozies birthday!! He’s one of my favourite, if not favourite, YouTubers and it’s awesome to share the same birthday as him. If you don’t know who he is, check out his YouTube channel here:https://m.youtube.com/user/swoozie06. He does videos and animations in funny stories (which is mostly about girls) and life experiences. I wished him a happy birthday on Twitter so I hope he sees my tweet!

I hope you guys have been having a wonderful day and please comment what you’ve been up to😊🎉🎈

Packing Up

Packing Up

I am so excited right now because it’s my birthday of Sunday and I’ll be turning 17!☺️🎉🎈 Although it might not be a great time to celebrate my 17th birthday because my family are currently preparing to move out of our current flat. It was quite a surprise when I found out we were moving out 3 weeks ago even though I knew my mum didn’t like how small our home was and the way things always broke e.g.the taps. Last year we were moving from our old house to the place we’re still currently in and we’ve only been in our current home for around 10 months, so not even year. I’ve moved houses several times throughout secondary school but this this the first time I’ve lived at a place for under a year. The main reason why my mum decides to move is due to the cost of houses especially when you live in an affluent area like the town I live in.

It’s hard when you’re a single mother, who has to provide for 2 kids especially when you live in a pretty posh town. We would have moved to Manchester last year if it wasn’t for my A-Levels but right now my mum is seriously considering moving to Manchester which is 4 hours away. I’m glad we’re not going to Manchester because I would miss my friends way too much. The main reason why we aren’t moving to Manchester now is because I’ll be going to university next year and I’ve already started the university application in school and she doesn’t want to do anything that could stop that process.

I’ve not really told my friends about the reasons why my family move houses a lot, I usually say it’s because “We want to move to a bigger house” or “My mum didn’t really like our last house, things just kept breaking”, these reasons were somewhat true but I didn’t want to tell them that it was because we couldn’t afford the rent or eviction. I’m not a person who really shares personal information about myself or share information about my home life because sometimes I’m unsure of how I feel about it myself. Most of my friends have lived the same home all their lives and even though I know that moving houses is common, when you do it too many times it starts to have negative effects on you.  I don’t really talk to my friends about things that are happening at home for several reasons but I just getting away from it by spending time with them.

I hope you guys have been having an awesome week so please comment below on what you’ve been up to. Also, I’ve been thinking of maybe doing a Q&A blog post so please tell me what you think about that!

Have an awesome weekend guys,

Omone 🙂

5 Reasons Why ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ Is One Of My Favourite Film

5 Reasons Why ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ Is One Of My Favourite Film

The Perks Of Being Wallflower is a movie based on the coming-of-age novel by Stephen Chbosky which, was released September 2012. The film was directed by the novels author and it’s a beautiful mix of comedy, drama and romance. I can’t explain how much I love this film, from the begging to the end it accurately shows what it’s like to be a teenager in school and the pressures you face to fit in and belong.

1) It’s Relatable

Even though the film is set in the early 1990s, teenagers in today’s generation can relate to the movie because the problems that they face in the movie are ones that occur today. Serious issues like sexual abuse, suicide, substance abuse and homophobia are shown in the film and these things could happen or have happened to people like you and me. It’s important we discuss these issues like sexual abuse and see it from a male’s point of view.

2) The Amazing Characters

Sam, Charlie and Patrick are the greatest trio of best friends. Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller play the roles of their characters amazingly and Logan even kept himself isolated for 2 weeks so he could get into the character of Charlie accurately. Charlie is a sensitive 15-year old who doesn’t have any friends after his best friend committed suicide in middle school and you can see the great bond he has with Sam and Patrick and the rest of the gang.

3) The Living Room Routine

During the school dance, Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners plays and Sam and Patrick begin to perform their ‘Living Room routine’ on the middle of the dance floor. This is one of the greatest scenes in the movie and you can see how Sam and Patrick couldn’t care less about what the rest of the students think about it.

4) The Great Songs

The soundtrack of this movie has some great songs and it was the first time I heard a song by The Smiths, who are my favourite band. Their track ‘Asleep’ is Charlie’s favourite song in the movie and also one of my favourite songs by the band. Other great tunes include Low by Cracker and of course the tunnel song, which is Heroes by David Bowie.

5) The Quotes

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower contains some amazing quotes that inspire and target the teenage audience and, like most people, my favourite quote in the whole movie is in Charlie’s last monologue:

“Because I know there are people who say all these things don’t happen. And there are people who forget what it’s like to be sixteen when they turn seventeen. I know these will all be stories some day, and our pictures will become old photographs. We all become somebody’s mom or dad. But right now, these moments are not stories. This is happening. I am here, and I am looking at her. And she is so beautiful. I can see it. This one moment when you know you’re not a sad story. You are alive. And you stand up and see the lights on the buildings and everything that makes you wonder. And you’re listening to that song, and that drive with the people who you love most in this world. And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite.”
― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

No words can explain how much I love the last line “And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite”. This quote could mean a lot of different things for different people but for me It means being at peace with yourself and forgetting about all the pain and heartache you’ve been though in the past and living in the moment! Another quote I love from the movie/book is “We accept the love we think we deserve”, which has really stuck with me since I watched the movie.

This weeks song are:

1) Mark Morrison – Return Of The Mack

Mark Morrison is British R&B singer who released this song in March 1996 and it reached no. 1 in the UKs singles chart a month later. The overall song is about betrayal and redemption. This song reached no.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997 and it appeared on the hit show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The beat of this song is sampled from Genius of Love by Tom Tom Band. In 2011, Mann did a cover of this song featuring Snoop Dogg and Iyaz. Please check out this awesome song below:

Mark Morrison – Return Of The Mack

2) The Weeknd – The Morning

The Morning is one of my favourite songs by The Weeknd and it appeared on his album, House Of Ballons (2011). This song is about mainly about prostitution and strippers and it states that they only have one motive which is money! The Weeknd emerges from a night full of drugs and drinking and reflects on his musical progression as well as the girls he’s usually with. The use of drugs is a major theme in this album. Check out this great song below:

The Weeknd – The Morning

3) Maxwell – This Woman’s Work

This is a cover of Kate Bush’s original song which is about the troubles involved in childbirth. I really like Maxwell’s MTV unplugged cover of this song, the mixture of high and low vocals honestly send chills down my spine! I first heard this song while watching one of my favourite films, Love & Basketball, and I instantly fell in love with it. Maxwell re-recorded this song and put it on his album, Now (2001). This song peaked at no.58 on the Billboard Hot 100. Please check out this beautiful song below:
