Summer has come and gone this year quicker than any other year in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I’ve been the most anxious to start year 13 than any other year and this is my last year in secondary school before I go off to university. I’ve spent most of the summer going up and down the country as you may already know by reading my previous blog posts but all in all this has got to be one of my favourite summer holidays. A lot has gone on in the past few months, changes that I might not be happy with but I have complete faith in God. One thing I’ve been thinking of starting is vlogs, maybe daily/weekly vlogging! You can check out my channel here but I deleted my old videos because they were uploaded a couple of years ago and have nothing to do with the content that I want to start uploading. I’ve recently been trying to pick out a cheap camera suitable for vlogging and I have my eyes on a SONY compact camera that I will hopefully get next week. Please comment if you think that I should start vlogging and if you’re already a vlogger, please comment on what camera you think will be suitable.
I’ve still got a few supplies that I need to buy for this upcoming academic year e.g. a new school bag, a new suit (we have to be formally dressed in my sixth form), new folders etc. and honestly I do enjoy back to school shopping. I am not, however, physically and mentally ready to start school and I usually feel this way a week before summer ends. I’ve still got my personal statement to write for my UCAS application and I’m still wondering what I’m going to put in it. I have watched videos and I’ve read examples of great personal statements but one thing that I’ve noticed that they always say is “Keep it positive”. The first draft of my personal statement is due in next Thursday, so I have just under a week to complete it however, I’m glad that I have completed my summer homework for media studies and psychology. One the things that I’m excited for in year 13 is the amount of free periods we will have because not only are we dropping a subject, we are also not doing P.E. this year. If you don’t already know, free periods are meant to be used for completing homework or studying or reading outside a subject.
I hope that you have had a wonderful summer and good luck to those who are going back to school or have already started school!

Meeting my best friends Sarah and Zara was one of the best things that have happened this year. I hadn’t seen Sarah since our leaver’s ceremony in year 11 and Zara since the beginning of this year, so it was great catching up and talking about sixth form and college with each other whilst eating at our favourite restaurant: Nandos. We went to this great desert restaurant afterwards and the ice cream I had tasted like HEAVEN! I also ate some of Sarah’s pancakes as well as Zara’s cocktail which were both delicious! I spent the last 15 minutes, in that restaurant, munching on the ice in Zara’s cocktail because if there’s one thing I love…it’s ICE. We spent the last few minutes together taking selfies and walking around town and we definitely agreed on meeting up before summer ends. Overall, it just felt like old times, lord knows how much I had missed them.
Sunday was the last time I was going to see Moyo before leaving to go to back to Manchester, so we said our last goodbyes, promising each other that we’d still stay in touch. I’m going to really miss that guy. When I arrived at the coach station on Monday, I was so worried that I had missed my coach but thankfully the coach I was supposed to get on was only 20 minutes late. The whole 6 hr journey to Manchester wasn’t too bad however, I pissed off one of the passengers on the second coach because I accidentally sat on her seat! I honestly didn’t know that the seat was taken but when she came back from the toilet she just looked at me and said “EXCUSE ME, THAT IS MY SEAT!”. LOL. I’m thinking “Why you so loud for??”. What’s even worse is that I had to sit next to her for the rest of the journey beacuse all the other seats were taken. When I reached the Manchester coach station I could see my mum’s head trying to find me in the coach since we got to Manchester 30 minutes late. My mum got a mad beacuse I forgot to give her a hug but it was only beacuse my suitcase was so heavy and I was practically dragging it across the floor. We got a taxi back to my uncles house and I have to say that it was so awkward, not beacuse of the taxi driver (he was really sweet), but beacuse my mum kept telling him that we were going to move to Manchester, find a house here and how she was so excited to move up north beacuse the houses are cheaper. I was just sitting because we didn’t discuss this decision properly, I really don’t want to move to Manchester and I’m going to be in year 13 next year so I don’t want to move school. I was surprised by the statements she had said in the taxi because I didn’t know that everything had been finalised. I asked my mum whether we were definitely moving to Manchester and she said that she still wasn’t sure. I’ve enjoyed staying at my Uncles, this week, but I keep getting confronted by the fact that I’m not girly enough *sigh*. Anyway, the Rio Olympics opening is tonight, well technically tomorrow for people who live in the UK because it starts at midnight, but I’m looking forward to it and I hope you are excited as much as I am for the Olympics. Have a great weekend everyone!
I can’t believe that today is the last day of year 12. It feels like it was yesterday when I first walked into the sixth form and met all the new sixth form students if my form. I’m just glad that I have survived this year. Surprisingly, Year 12 wasn’t as stressful as I thought I’d be and honestly… I don’t know why. Most of my friends hated sixth form and wished they went to college instead due to the workload and the amount of stress teachers put on us but I feel like I’ve really kept my head above the water this year. This could be because whenever I get an essay or a big project to complete, I always remind myself that this is only a small challenge that I have to go through that will lead to a great overall result in my A-levels. I have enjoyed year 12 even though there have been some ups and downs throughout the year and I’ll even say that year 12 is probably one of my favourite academic years including year 9 and 10. This is mostly beacuse we got to skip the lunch queue but also beacuse we have more freedom and we can focus on the subjects we enjoy. Next year, we will be only doing 3 subjects, that’s 6 double lessons and lots more free periods! I’ve heard that year 13 is better than year 12 beacuse you get used to the structure and work in sixth form.
I’m also glad that I don’t have any hard summer homework, unlike last summer, which makes the holiday even better however, I think I have to write my personal statement for my UCAS application over summer. If you guys have any tips, please comment them! I was supposed to start writing my personal statement this week but it didn’t happen because I couldn’t access my UCAS account (which is now locked beacuse I tried to log in too many times, LOL) and I couldn’t really be bothered because it’s the last week of school. I had two big projects that I had to give in yesterday for biology and psychology which was a little bit stressful beacuse 1. My statistical analysis was all wrong so that effected the conclusion of my experiment in biology and 2. I didn’t have a debrief form or signatures of my participants in psychology however, I completed both subjects and handed them in one time.
These next 6 weeks of summer will mostly be spent chilling out, relaxing and catching up on all my favourite shows. I’ll be spending a lot of the summer with my family out in Manchester which will be a nice change in scenery. I know some of you guys have already started your summer holiday so please comment on what you’ve been up to/going to be doing this summer!

I arrived back to my current town on Tuesday night but funnily enough I nearly missed my second coach beacuse I was asking the cashier of a store how much millions (the sweets) cost. In the corner of my eye, I noticed my coach at the station, I grabbed my luggage and ran for the coach before I thought it would leave without me. It was alright beacuse the coach driver didn’t even leave his seat to board people into the coach yet and he was so nice as well. The whole journey from Manchester to where i live took about 6 hours and I boarded a coach, took a train and a taxi, all by myself. I’m now current living with my Uncle, while my mum and brother are in Manchester. The real reason I came back from Manchester is to finish school beacuse we’ve started our application to university and I generally didn’t want to miss 2 weeks of school. The thing is, I hadn’t missed a day of school last year or this year until this Monday and Tuesday beacuse I was in Manchester. I’m quite passionate about my attendance in school, I don’t know why…but I just am. I have had such a good attendance throughout the whole of secondary school that one of my closest friends was very surprised that I didn’t come into school Monday and Tuesday. I didn’t have that much work to catch up on which is good, even though we’ve sort of started the A2 course.
Today was my last day attending sports day in my school which is quite sad beacuse I participated in an event (track or field) throughout secondary school. This year, I didn’t participate in any events but my form still won sports day overall for year 12s which is brilliant. It was nice to see the whole school outside, representing and cheering on their forms participants. Overall, my house came 3rd, which is really good especially because I moved to a new form in the begging of year 12. This time next year, I will be on summer holiday beacuse we finish school in May in year 13 which means an extended summer,I can’t wait!
I hope you guys have been having a good week so please comment what you’ve been up to this week 🙂
Even though coming back to school for 5 weeks wasn’t the best thing that happened to me this week, it has been a pretty Exciting. In my last 2 lessons on Monday we started the UCAS process, which is where you send applications to university, and began to browse through universities that we wanted to go to. We were also given booklets about what type of university we want to go to which has to be completed by July 15th.
On Tuesday, my year went to a trip to a university convention in Bedfordshire University, which took us way too long to get there than I expected. Unsurprisingly, we were the only school who had to wear our sixth form uniforms while other schools came in their ordinary clothes because as our head teacher says “you are representing our school” *sigh*.There were talks on different subjects you could take at university and there was a fair where different universities had stands with their representatives. I got the chance to watch 3 talks by university professors which were criminology, psychology and forensic science, which were all interesting. I’ve made up the decision that I will defiantly be doing psychology at university beacuse I enjoyed the psychology talk with the professor and I genuinly liked the topics in the course. I was also lucky enough to pick up a few prospectuses from universities I might apply to e.g. Sussex, Surrey, Warwick, Queen Mary etc. These Universities have high entry requirements like all A’s or 2 A’s and a B grade but due to their popularity and great facilities, I can see why.
In the next few days, I made an effort to research universities and to note down opening days for universities I’m interested in. I used useful websites like UCAS, uni stats and university league tables to narrow down my search due to few factors like student satisfaction, entry requirements, distance and accommodation. My friend told me today how important it was to visit universities before you totally decide which one’s you’re going to apply for beacuse different universities give off different vibes. I have had my eye on these 6 universities in particular: Surrey, Nottingham, Loughborough, Leeds, Exeter and Southampton but ultimately I need to choose 5 to apply to. I’m excited but nervous at the same time because this time next year I would have left sixth form and picked which university I wanted to go to. Time really does go quickly…
Please tell me what you’ve been up to this week and I hope you have a lovely weekend!
