Post Mock Exams + Harry Potter

Post Mock Exams + Harry Potter

I’m so glad that my mock exams are over, overall I found them OK and we have to wait until February to get our results back. It’s going to be like how we’d open our results in the real results day such as our grades are going to be in an envelope. I think that people who do Biology are going to our marks back in class however, we are going to get our actual grades in February. The mocks especially Psychology was harder than I thought it would be and AQA (the exam board) are making the exam seven harder than ever before. I’m happy that I don’t have to revise for a bit until my Easter mock exams!

I have finished reading the first 3 Harry Potter books and I’ve enjoyed reading all of them but Pisoner of Azkaban is my favourite, it’s soooo good and I think JK Rowling is a genius!☺️ one thing I’ve noticed is that Prisoner of Azkaban is the most dissimilar to the movies so far but, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite film as well. I’ve read the first 3 chapters of Godblet of Fire and I like so far. I love the Harry Potter universe and a couple of weeks ago I did the quiz that puts in you in one of the four houses in Hogwarts and I was put in Gryffindor which I’m quite proud of!

It’s hard to imagine that I’ve got only got 5 months left of sixth form until I leave school and go off to uni. I’ve had so many memories at this school…

San Junipero Expanded Playlist

San Junipero Expanded Playlist

San Junipero is the fourth episode in season 3 of one of the best shows on Netflix, Black Mirror. It’s about two tourists who meet in a town called San Junipero and a lot of things are revealed throughout the episode. I watched this episode of black mirror last month and I was blown away! I love this episode so much and the extended spotify playlist, created by the writer, brings back the best songs from the 80s from some of my favourite musicians such as The Smiths, Belinda Carlisle and Whitney Houston. One of my favourite songs in San Junipero is Fake by Alexander O’Neal. I’ve been obsessed with this song for a while now because it’s so catchy and has a very 80s vibe. I highly recommend that you watch this episode of Black Mirror and check out this great playlist below:

Keeping Your Head Up…

Keeping Your Head Up…

This weeks post is named after the song Keeping Your Head Up by Birdy, it’s such a beautiful song, if you haven’t please do! The highlight of this week was having an insert day on Tuesday, meaning that I didn’t have to go to school. I was quite glad as well beacuse Tuesday is my only full day of lessons and on the other days I have at least one free period.

Time is moving on so fast, it’s half term in two weeks and people have already been sending off their UCAS applications for university and getting offers. I know people who have already gotten offers from Warwick and Bristol university. One of my friends has gotten an unconditional from Birmingham university to study biochemistry. I need to finish my application and send it off soon beacuse I’ve been told that they decide to offer you a place as soon as your application is in, they don’t wait until the deadline to start going through applications, so it’s in my best interest to send my application off early.

These few weeks back in sixth form has really made reality hit me, the fact that we are going to be going to university next year and starting a sort of new chapter in our lives is still crazy to me. A lot of people have been upset about their predicted grades and they’ve realised how this could all change which universities give them offers. I’ve been having a lot of assessments and tests these few weeks and the results have come with varying success which really put me down sometimes, but I am not going to let it get me down. It feels like we’re under a lot of pressure to do well and know everything automatically and this has definitely taken some of the passion that I had for certain subjects, away…

Please tell me what you’ve been up to lately and have a great weekend!

#AllNightDanceParty

#AllNightDanceParty

Like last weeks post, this week has been so hectic with school and all that comes with it. I didn’t get to write a blog post on Friday because I had so much work to do and I’d probably be repeating everything I’ve said on my previous blog posts. This week has been quite stressful however, in the beginning of last week I discovered one of my now favourite playlists on Spotify called ‘All Night Dance Part’. I’ve been particularly listening to dance music this week beacuse it somehow lifts my spirits, makes me forget about all the school work I have to do and brightens my mood. In a way, it reminds me of summer when I didn’t have to worry about mid-topic assessments and making pre-notes for lessons. I highly recommend that you listen to this playlist, some of my favourite songs are Girls Like, BOSS, I Loved You, Slave To The Vibe, Ain’t Giving Up, House Work, Rinse & Repeat, Just Say, Freak Like Me, Changes etc. So check it out!

I might start posting my favourite playlists every week on my blog with different song genres and my own playlists as well, so please tell me if you think I should!

My first week of year 13

My first week of year 13

My first week of year 13 (more like 2 days) went OK. I actually missed the first day of year 13, which was Tuesday, because I was still in Manchester and I wouldn’t be back until Wednesday. We got the day off on Wednesday so we could complete our personal statements and our UCAS applications which I still haven’t finished. The first draft of my personal statement is now due in on Monday because my awesome form tutor gave us the weekend to complete it. I am currently applying to do psychology at university and I’ve been using The Next Chemist’s post about tips on writing your personal statement to help me with mine, so check it out if you’re currently doing your personal statement!  Continue reading “My first week of year 13”

Summer ’16

Summer ’16

Summer has come and gone this year quicker than any other year in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I’ve been the most anxious to start year 13 than any other year and this is my last year in secondary school before I go off to university. I’ve spent most of the summer going up and down the country as you may already know by reading my previous blog posts but all in all this has got to be one of my favourite summer holidays. A lot has gone on in the past few months, changes that I might not be happy with but I have complete faith in God. One thing I’ve been thinking of starting is vlogs, maybe daily/weekly vlogging! You can check out my channel here but I deleted my old videos because they were uploaded a couple of years ago and have nothing to do with the content that I want to start uploading. I’ve recently been trying to pick out a cheap camera suitable for vlogging and I have my eyes on a SONY compact camera that I will hopefully get next week. Please comment if you think that I should start vlogging and if you’re already a vlogger, please comment on what camera you think will be suitable.

I’ve still got a few supplies that I need to buy for this upcoming academic year e.g. a new school bag, a new suit (we have to be formally dressed in my sixth form), new folders etc. and honestly I do enjoy back to school shopping. I am not, however, physically and mentally ready to start school and I usually feel this way a week before summer ends. I’ve still got my personal statement to write for my UCAS application and I’m still wondering what I’m going to put in it. I have watched videos and I’ve read examples of great personal statements but one thing that I’ve noticed that they always say is “Keep it positive”. The first draft of my personal statement is due in next Thursday, so I have just under a week to complete it however, I’m glad that I have completed my summer homework for media studies and psychology. One the things that I’m excited for in year 13 is the amount of free periods we will have because not only are we dropping a subject, we are also not doing P.E. this year. If you don’t already know, free periods are meant to be used for completing homework or studying or reading outside a subject.

I hope that you have had a wonderful summer and good luck to those who are going back to school or have already started school!

Music Monday: 15/08/16

Music Monday: 15/08/16

This weeks songs are:

1) John Newman- Gold Dust

John Newman is an English singer and songwriter who is most known for his song, Love Me Again, which reached no. 1  in the UKs singles chart in 2013. Gold Dust is the ninth single from his debut studio album, Tribute (2013) which reached no. 1 on the UKs albums chart in 2013. The song starts off with the singer telling his partner that it’s better for them to break up and he lets out all the thoughts he’s had on their 2 year relationship. Their relationship is ‘Gold Dust’ because even though their relationship has turned to dust, they’re ending each others unhappiness. Check out this great song below:

John Newman – Gold Dust

2)  Kate Boy – Northern Lights

Kate Boy is a Swedish synth-pop duo. Northern Lights was released in 2012 and the song is literally about northern lights that show up in the northern hemisphere due to electrical charged particles which produces a variety of colours, predominantly green and pink. The music video of this song contains stunning visuals of different designs and the group themselves. Check out this cool song below:

3) Axwell – Nothing But Love ft.Errol Reid

Axwell is one of the three members of Swedish House Mafia, a progressive/electro house group, and this song appeared on their album Until One (2010). The music video is really interesting because it reflects the meaning of the lyrics which is all about Jesus. This interview of Axwell basically sums up the song and music video:  “The vocal, it sounds like it’s a Jesus kind of a thing. With the whole ‘Whatever you do, turn the other cheek’ and ‘I got nothing but love for you, whatever you do.’ So I was like, ‘I really like this idea,’ and it’s going to be kind of hard to pull off with it not being weird or upsetting. I think the idea is that it’s a bit like how we would be if there was a modern Jesus among us.” Check out this song below:

The Blogger Recognition Award

The Blogger Recognition Award

I really want to thank Mike Senczyszak for nominating me for this great award, I haven’t been blogging for a long time so I feel very privileged to be nominated!

I’ve been following Mike’s blog, Solsbury Hill, for some time know and I’ve really enjoyed  reading his posts because they genuinely touch on interesting and intriguing topics that can affect our everyday lives. Also, he writes about what it’s like to be a blogger, which we can relate to, for example in some of his posts he talks about how he finds it hard to feel motivated to write a post, which I can definitely relate with. I like how unique and honest his writing is. It’s funny because I’ve never really been the type of person to like long, thought proving articles but he is one of the few writers where I enjoy reading these types of posts.

So, how did I get started blogging?

I first started blogging in April because I wanted to write posts about one of my favourite TV shows, Charmed. I first created a website on Weebly however, I didn’t really like the platform because it wasn’t as flexible as I thought a blog would be. If you knew me personally, you might not instantly think of me being a music/personal blogger because I seem like more of a quite and conservative type of person which is one of the reason I didn’t want to start a personal blog. Till this day, I haven’t told most of my closest friends about this blog and trust me if you met the people that go to my school, you would too. I first only considered doing posts about Charmed but later decided to write posts on my personal life to meet more people and share my experiences and thoughts to the world. I am also quite passionate about music and I listen to music wayyy to much so later I decided to create ‘Music Monday’ to share my favourite tunes with you guys.

2 advice for new bloggers:

  1. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to publish posts often. It’s OK to write 1 or 2 posts per week even though most of you have heard that the more posts you publish, the more views your blog will get. This is true, but its important not to burn yourself out by trying to create new material everyday/every other day.
  2. Be yourself and write posts about things that you genuinely find interesting. If you don’t find it interesting then you’re going to find it hard to have the motivation to write.

Before I nominate 15 great bloggers for this award, thank you again Mike for nominating me! Here are the 15 bloggers I have nominated for this award, I will be sending the rules to each of the nominees:

School’s Out!

School’s Out!

I can’t believe that today is the last day of year 12. It feels like it was yesterday when I first walked into the sixth form and met all the new sixth form students if my form. I’m just glad that I have survived this year. Surprisingly, Year 12 wasn’t as stressful as I thought I’d be and honestly… I don’t know why. Most of my friends hated sixth form and wished they went to college instead due to the workload and the amount of stress teachers put on us but I feel like I’ve really kept my head above the water this year. This could be because whenever I get an essay or a big project to complete, I always remind myself that this is only a small challenge that I have to go through that will lead to a great overall result in my A-levels. I have enjoyed year 12 even though there have been some ups and downs throughout the year and I’ll even say that year 12 is probably one of my favourite academic years including year 9 and 10. This is mostly beacuse we got to skip the lunch queue but also beacuse we have more freedom and we can focus on the subjects we enjoy. Next year, we will be only doing 3 subjects, that’s 6 double lessons and lots more free periods! I’ve heard that year 13 is better than year 12 beacuse you get used to the structure and work in sixth form.

I’m also glad that I don’t have any hard summer homework, unlike last summer, which makes the holiday even better however, I think I have to write my personal statement for my UCAS application over summer. If you guys have any tips, please comment them! I was supposed to start writing my personal statement this week but it didn’t happen because I couldn’t access my UCAS account (which is now locked beacuse I tried to log in too many times, LOL) and I couldn’t really be bothered because it’s the last week of school. I had two big projects that I had to give in yesterday for biology and psychology which was a little bit stressful beacuse 1. My statistical analysis was all wrong so that effected the conclusion of my experiment in biology and 2. I didn’t have a debrief form or signatures of my participants in psychology however, I completed both subjects and handed them in one time.

These next 6 weeks of summer will mostly be spent chilling out, relaxing and catching up on all my favourite shows. I’ll be spending a lot of the summer with my family out in Manchester which will be a nice change in scenery. I know some of you guys have already started your summer holiday so please comment on what you’ve been up to/going to be doing this summer!
